Highlands' Women Support

Seattle Children's Home

For 25 years the women of The Highlands have been invited and welcomed as members of the Dorothy Dixon Allen Guild, whose purpose is to develop and encourage interests in the work of Seattle Children’s Home (SCH).  The guild was named after Dorothy Dixon Allen.

The Guild has been a powerful and supportive presence for the children of SCH.  The Guild sponsors birthday and holiday parties for the children, operates a thrift store, and underwrites remodeling and landscaping projects at SCH.  Most recently the Guild raised $25,000 to renovate the library, and has partnered with the Kerry Oliver Guild, a group of women from the Broadmoor neighborhood, to renovate the campus lunchroom for the children in the Residential Treatment Program.

Seattle Children’s Home is the oldest children's charity in Washington State, established in 1884 by the Ladies Relief Society as a home for orphans.  Today, SCH helps children and their families by providing comprehensive mental health and developmental services that range in intensity from outpatient therapy to residential treatment including 24-hour nursing and psychiatric care.  Each year SCH transforms the lives of hundreds of the most vulnerable youth in our community.
